Afterwards

Afterwards

His mother,

My wife died,

Bringing him into the world,

And I was left alone,

To raise him,

My grief,

Eventually I overcame,

With my son,

Giving me life,

To live again,

But five years later,

He was taken away,

I was there,

When it happened,

He was riding his bike in the driveway,

I was cleaning the garage,

A car rode up,

Over the sidewalk,

And as I ran,

I yelled,

Look out!

But it was too late,

And he lay there,

Motionless,

As the car sped away,

I screamed,

And held him close,

He did not breathe,

His heart no longer thumped,

As I put my ear to his chest,

And then,

Part of me died as well,

My heart became,

Like a stone,

I didn't want to feel anymore,

Soon after,

I lost my job,

Then my home,

I slept in my car,

Until one day,

It was towed away,

I shook my hands at God,

Why did you do this to me?

The next morning,

Someone found me,

And took me in to a warm,

Soft,

Clean,

House,

They fed me,

And with out asking,

Began to take away my pain,

Their prayers brought,

New life,

Hope,

Encouragement,

And behind,

I left fear,

Guilt,

A broken heart,

And shame.
