Small Town Coroner
Dinner! We ate at the diner after they closed down early. Economy isn't the best here right now and they have to cut corners where they can.
First thing that comes out of their mouths..."When are you too going to have some kids?"
We didn't expect that but I guess you have to get that out of the way. So I told them she already has a class of twenty eight. This of course cause them to roll their eyes.
Annie and Arnie weren't able to have kids because each of them had issues with their reproductive genes. Very rare and very painful. So they love to live through other people's experiences with their kids.
When I was first married and a father they always took my daughter out to the carnival every summer. They would spoil her with rides, cotton candy and every prize you could possible win. It would take days to get all those stuffed animals out of the hall an in to her room. I can remember one morning waking up and finding myself face to face with a giant pink panda bear.
So back to the question Sarah answered that we will have one next year.
I just looked at her and said "What?"
She beamed and said,"Remember how I have been sick the last few mornings?"
I gulped, "Yes."
It seemed like an instant and a lifetime went by then she said"I'm pregnant!"
Annie and Arnie jumped up and down patting me on the back and hugging Sarah with tears running down their faces.
I was shocked. I had no idea and here we were at the diner...Pregnant.
Don't get me wrong I was excited but at the same time I couldn't help but picture my first wife so many days ago giving me the news with the exact same people in the exact same way. So much to think about. So many memories.
